Core Mac OS X and Unix Programming

Michael McCracken reviews it. It definitely sounds like something I want but I'd have a tough time justifying the $100 price tag. Man, that really is a lot of money for a book...

I actually just bought that book during WWDC, and, though I too initially balked at the price, I would honestly recommend it heartily! Most of the other OS X programming books are very high level--this is the first one I've ever seen that isn't afraid to really get into the guts of the OS (read: UNIX!).

One of the things I like about it is that it gives a really good review of a lot of the features of C (like pre-processor directives, macros, and so forth) that I'm not quite as familiar with. It's been a goal of mine for sometime to become a more more competent C (as opposed to the higher level Obj-C) programmer, and I think this book will help a lot.

If you're already pretty knowledgable about C, though, it might not be worth the price...

Well, I'm not really a big C guy. Basically started with Java and moved on from there so this probably would be a book I should get.

now, I just need a way to distract the wife while I buy it. :)
