Brian McCallister sent out a call to the LazyWeb, looking for advice on learning math.
My goal is a useful working knowledge, not just a rough understanding of concepts. I want to be able to actually think, not just read about things and feel 747's full of knowledge whizzing over my head.
Initial comments point him to the MIT Open Courseware site and Numerical Recipes in C which is freely available. The Mathematics for Computer Science class at MIT looks very useful.
