Sitting at a friend's house who happens to be a very big SC fan was tough. Thankfully, he isn't the typical SC fan of rants, raves and is generally arrogant and non-forgiving. Watching the game felt like everything was in slow-motion. Two quick scores by the Trojans set the tone for the rest of the game. The Irish never really answered though they had three big chances but failed to convert in SC territory. Had they scored on even one of those, perhaps the second half would have been different but more than likely not.
SC is a very good team right now and I have no problems with their playing Ohio St. for the title.
Where does that leave Notre Dame? I imagine they are still going to a BCS bowl, probably the Sugar though the announcers last night threw the Rose into consideration since SC will be gone if they beat UCLA next week.
I will say that I'm not as down on the Irish following this game as I was two years ago when they were blown out again. It was Ty Willingham's last game and set in motion the hiring of Charlie Weis. I believe Charlie will get the players he needs to compete with the Trojans in the future. Some additional commentary from ND Nation gives more perspective.
Now, I have to wait until October 20th, 2007.
