Realtime Parking and Mobile Search

No, these two things aren't connected though that might be a very interesting product. Paul Kedrosky has written about both recently.

Santa Monica always has a parking problem. Any time you arrive there, you'll be lucky to find something close to where you want to go. Now though, they have a web-based service which gives you up-to-the-second information about how many parking spots are available at the various parking lots in the city. I think tying this into a Location-Based Service and SMS alerts could be very beneficial. Many cities have similar problems with parking and being able to alert drivers to the best locations based on where they currently are would be something many would pay for.

Interesting data from the latest comScore release. It looks at the reach of various sites in terms of the desktop platform and the mobile platform. Not surprisingly, weather, sports and email are the top destinations when it comes to mobile browsers. Paul wonders why search isn't higher. My guess is that while people are definitely looking for things, the search experience on mobile browsers isn't the best. It's not necessarily the search engine that has the poor experience but many times the site's linked to have issues. I know that's the case for me many times I search on my Treo.

Perhaps things like Google's OneBox and our OUIJA could help with these, giving back certain data based on queries. Sure, not all will be correct but as times goes on, it could be much more beneficial.

Matt Raible shows off some cool timelines he created using OmniGraffle. Very cool idea.

Here's the script you need in order to create them.

The Disappointment

Sitting at a friend's house who happens to be a very big SC fan was tough. Thankfully, he isn't the typical SC fan of rants, raves and is generally arrogant and non-forgiving. Watching the game felt like everything was in slow-motion. Two quick scores by the Trojans set the tone for the rest of the game. The Irish never really answered though they had three big chances but failed to convert in SC territory. Had they scored on even one of those, perhaps the second half would have been different but more than likely not.

SC is a very good team right now and I have no problems with their playing Ohio St. for the title.

Where does that leave Notre Dame? I imagine they are still going to a BCS bowl, probably the Sugar though the announcers last night threw the Rose into consideration since SC will be gone if they beat UCLA next week.

I will say that I'm not as down on the Irish following this game as I was two years ago when they were blown out again. It was Ty Willingham's last game and set in motion the hiring of Charlie Weis. I believe Charlie will get the players he needs to compete with the Trojans in the future. Some additional commentary from ND Nation gives more perspective.

Now, I have to wait until October 20th, 2007.

The Silver and Black Attack

Tod Goldberg sends a much needed letter to Al Davis.

Watching the 2006 Oakland Raiders makes me yearn for an allergic reaction to paper that makes my skin bleed. Watching the 2006 Oakland Raiders makes me yearn to be that woman I saw on the Discover Channel who had two huge worms burrow into her scalp. Watching the 2006 Oakland Raiders makes me yearn to read fiction about 9/11 written with many, many adverbs.
